Letters - Change – the order of nature in life

THE law of nature impels every living thing to change or die.

Plants or animals, all change as they grow – at each stage becoming more mature, more capable and more self-reliant than at the one before.

But, the only living thing that resists change, rather than adapt to the demands of life and the establishment are – humans.

And, that's why humans (mostly) manoeuvre, manipulate and do much more to hold on to their old ways, not giving way to the new change, that is so necessary if there is to be actual growth and honest gain.

Change is what transforms societies and nations from the less to more developed. And people and organisations from low to high achievers.

In the words of former British prime minister Benjamin Disraeli: "Change is inevitable. In a progressive country, change is constant."

As we move through life and work in all its facets, we are constantly being bombarded with change. Everything evolves and moves ahead towards the future. Without change, there can be no progress.

When one is young, one is more adaptable and open to change. However, as we get older, we become set in our ways. We resent change and choose the easy way around things, if we can. We want shortcuts to achieve everything in life.

But let's be aware, nothing stands still forever. Sooner or later, change must and will come.

Let's be vigilant and prepare to embrace change, and to face it with confidence, knowing it's for the greater good of all.

For then, when change comes, it should exemplify the excellence that has been our life's endeavour rather than evince the evil that has been our ever-present pursuit.
