THE Ministry of Education is increasing the stress levels of UPSR pupils who are basically children who should enjoy the learning process.
The plan to implement 90 as the cut-off mark for an "A" is unfair. Even higher overseas exams like A Levels keep 80 as the cut-off mark.
These are kids who want to be motivated by studying. The question that arises is that the Education Ministry should implement policies prudently and not change them as and when it wants to.
We can ensure both the well-being of pupils and academic excellence by following proper guidelines and consulting educationists, parents and child psychologists.
I am a doctor and counselling is part of my job. I am already seeing stressed up kids going to the extreme to achieve academic excellence.
Please be reasonable so that children can enjoy their education and not become mentally unstable and anxious individuals at such a young age.
I urge the ministry's officials to empathise with these poor kids.
