THE growing challenges of development have resulted in most Malaysians paying for their own security. The residents of Bandar Sri Damansara are paying close to RM3 million a year to security companies. An average family spends more than RM80 a month for a landed property and it varies if your property is bigger.
It is important that the government give a reprieve for this payment by way of tax exemption. We are aware that high-rise apartments and condominiums have been paying such fees for a long time. The need to pay for landed property only started in the late 90's due to rapid development and the lack of security.
We need more policemen and greater reassignment of the police to reduce crime. We urge the finance minister to seriously consider tax exemption for housing area security fees in the 2016 Budget.
This will be a boost for urban dwellers who are already paying all kind of taxes.
