Letters - Too many 'cooks' in the aviation sector

THE great and deep malaise of Malaysian governance, which is too many cooks in the restaurant, has hit the aviation sector now.

The fiasco of Suasa Air flying fare-paying passengers without approval has highlighted the concern of just who is in charge? The Malaysian Aviation Commission or Department of Civil Aviation?

One is under the Prime Ministers’ Department and the other under the Transport Ministry and there seems to be no coordination among them in dealing with this unauthorised airline.

This is precisely why there should not be multiple agencies dealing with the same jurisdiction that creates overlapping enforcement and a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Confusions such as this are normal nowadays in Malaysia, for example overlapping jurisdiction between SPAD and JPJ, which is under a different ministry as well.

Then there is Indah Water which is a Ministry of Finance company but the industry is licensed and supervised by Kettha.
